What to Expect from Odoo 20 — The Smartest Release Yet

Odoo 20 isn't just an upgrade. It's the shift from ERP-as-a-tool to ERP-as-a-smart-business-partner

Odoo has spent years quietly becoming one of the most capable all-in-one business platforms on the market — covering accounting, CRM, inventory, HR, and e-commerce from a single dashboard. With Odoo 20, expected at Odoo Experience 2026 (September 24–26, Brussels), the platform is making its biggest leap yet.

Version

AI Focus

Odoo 18 (2024)

OCR, automated invoice processing

Odoo 19 (2025)

AI Agents, natural language search

Odoo 20 (2026)

Autonomous AI, predictive decisions

Odoo 20 is expected to take the biggest leap yet — turning ERP from a management tool into a smart business partner.

1. Agentic AI — AI That Actually Does Things.

Previous Odoo versions gave you AI suggestions. Odoo 20 is expected to give you AI that acts. Called Agentic AI, it can reportedly handle tasks like reassigning CRM leads, spinning up full projects from a PDF, and managing multi-department workflows — all without you clicking through every step.

2. Finance for Everyone.

The accounting module is getting a serious intelligence upgrade — particularly helpful for small businesses without a dedicated finance team:
• Automated audit checks that flag unusual transactions
• Predictive financial forecasting built right into the dashboard
• SEPA batch payments sent to your bank in one click
• New payment integrations: Mollie, M-Pesa, and Wero

3. A Real Mobile Experience.

Odoo 20 is expected to arrive with a fully redesigned mobile interface — one built for touch, not adapted from desktop. Whether you're approving invoices from your phone or updating inventory on the floor, the goal is an experience as smooth as any modern app.

4. Smarter E-Commerce & Sales.

• AI-powered lead scoring in CRM — focus on prospects most likely to convert
• Automated cross-sell suggestions based on cart contents
• POS combo detection — automatic bundle discounts at checkout
• Edit your website by chatting with it, not clicking through menus.

5. Scale for Larger Teams.

A technical but game-changing improvement: read-replica database architecture. Where previous versions maxed out around 2,000–5,000 concurrent users, Odoo 20 aims to support 10,000+ users simultaneously — bringing it squarely into SAP and Oracle territory for enterprise use cases.

6. Payroll Gets a Major Overhaul.

HR teams are in for a significant simplification. Odoo 20 introduces a brand-new payroll dashboard that gives managers an at-a-glance view of pending tasks — missing bank accounts, employees without contracts, outdated payslips — all with direct action buttons. More importantly, the intermediate “work entries” step is being eliminated. Payroll will now pull leave and attendance data directly, cutting down the prep work before every pay run.
• New payroll dashboard showing pending tasks with one-click action buttons
• Removal of work entries — payroll reads directly from Time Off and attendance
• New Pay Runs view: a clean three-step flow (Employees → Time → Payslips)
• Auditable payroll cycles with fewer manual reconciliation steps.

7. Website, SEO & eCommerce — A Real Polish.

The website builder and eCommerce module are getting a serious round of improvements that go beyond cosmetics. Odoo 20 addresses long-standing SEO gaps and loading performance issues that have been pain points for growing businesses.
• Faster page and asset loading times out of the box
• Proper SEO foundations: microdata/JSON-LD support, canonical URLs, no-index fixes, and sitemap improvements
• Better redirect management and improved accessibility across themes
• Enhanced blog, snippet, and form editing tools in the website builder
• POS floorplan integration — customers can book specific tables (bar, terrace, interior) directly from the website

8. Scheduling & Appointments — Built for How Teams Actually Work.

The calendar and appointment modules are being significantly upgraded. Whether you run a service business, a consulting firm, or a retail outlet with bookings, Odoo 20 brings tools that reduce scheduling friction for both staff and customers.
• Personal booking pages for individual team members
• Multi-calendar management and sync with Google and Outlook calendars
• Visual slot creation by dragging on the calendar, with buffer time between bookings
• Improved capacity management, recurrence support, and closing day configuration
• Teams meeting link support built directly into appointment flows

9. POS Hardware — No More Setup Headaches.

Point of Sale receives some of the most concrete updates in Odoo 20. The headline change: POS hardware now connects automatically via the browser’s local network access API — no IoT box setup, no certificate imports, no manual IP configuration. For retail and hospitality businesses, this alone could save hours every time a new terminal or printer needs to go live.
• Auto-discovery of POS hardware over local network — no IoT box or certificate setup required
• Dramatically simplified printer configuration
• Floor plan editor improvements with snooze for product availability
• Auto combo detection already present, now tighter integration with the floor plan
